The Albanian language is spoken mostly by the native population of Albania as well as smaller populations in Greece and Italy. It has roughly 6 million native speakers. Albanian is classified as an independent group within the Indo-European language family, and is further subdivided into two dialects – northern and southern – which developed in parallel. Interestingly, Albanian contains numerous international neologisms inherited through Russian.
