The Armenian language is related to the Indo-European family of languages, but has its own distinct subgroup. Among European languages it has an ancient written form, as the modern alphabet was created in 406 CE. Interestingly, Armenian bears the greatest resemblance to Greek. The Armenian language currently incorporates two variants – Western Armenian and Eastern Armenian. The total number of speakers throughout the whole world is around 5.9 to 6.7 million people.
